Folk Art

Trying some folk art. Just wanted to try something different. These are all very small- 6inchx8inch. I =really enjoyed doing them. There are a few "fails".. mostly when I try to use green. So, thinking about how to use a more toned down green color for outdoor scenes.

Old Boatyard- Sneads Ferry, NC

Still working on this one a bit...Sneads Ferry, NC. This is from a reference photo from a visit there a few years ago. Currently,  I have a lot of workers at my house, painting exterior and doing some
inside repairs. My studio windows are covered with tarps and lots of noise! 8x10 oil

Plein Air- Charleston, SC. Pitts Street Bridge area

Enjoyed getting out and meeting some new plein air painting friends. The weather has been unusually warm- in the high 60's to low 70's. Not complaining!

"Lit" Southern Pines

This was a fun one to paint. Its small but I might turn it into a larger painting. Saw these trees and the moon on my walk last night.

Patiently Waiting

Today, I debated about doing a marsh painting or a setting up a still life. But my studio is a bit messy after the holidays and setting up a still life would take some time. So, marsh scene won out. The little egret was an "addition" and I think he looks okay so he will stay. 9x12 oil, mostly palette knife.

Charleston Sunset- palette knife

Saw this view on the way to the Charleston Airport. Its a 8x10 palette knife. I like to do these small ones with a palette knife- it seems to keep the colors crisper and less muddy.
